As the TARDIS materializes in the Himalayas the Doctor looks for the "Ghanta", a sacred bell which will ensure them a warm welcome at the nearby Tibetan monastery.  Leaving Jamie and Victoria to continue searching, the Doctor goes outside to explore, and comes across the remains of a campsite, where he discovers a dead body and takes the backpack he was wearing.  Jamie and Victoria go looking for the Doctor, but get sidetracked by a fresh set of large footprints, following them to a cave.  Explorer Professor Travers, who is searching  for Yeti,  sees the backpack of his dead companion, and accuses the Doctor of his murder. The Doctor protests his innocence as Khrisong, the chief warrior, orders the Doctor taken away.  Inside the cave Jamie and Victoria meet a Yeti, which attacks.  During the scuffle, the Yeti's control sphere gets knocked loose, allowing them to discover that the yeti is actually a fur covered robot being directed by the evil Great Intelligence, a cosmic entity who now possesses the body of The High Padmasambhava, an old friend of the Doctor. The Doctor finds a way to immobilize the Yeti and defeats the Great Intelligence.  On the way back to the TARDIS with Travers they finally discovers a real yeti - a shy and harmless creature.
